At M3, we believe in giving our people the chance to make a difference beyond the day job. That’s why every member of our team gets three community days each year to spend on causes close to their heart.
This September, Charly used hers to volunteer at a cultural and community centre in Rabat, Morocco. It was an experience that has left a lasting impact on both her and the young people she worked with.
Immersed in Local Life
From the moment she arrived, Charly was welcomed into the home of a local family, sharing breakfast, lunch and dinner with them each day.
“Sharing breakfast, lunch, and dinner with them was such a special part of the experience. Although we relied heavily on Google Translate, since English was very limited – it’s amazing how quickly you can feel at home when people are so warm and welcoming. Mealtimes were full of delicious food, and I completely immersed myself in the culture.”
Teaching, Playing, Connecting
Her week began with an orientation before joining two other volunteers at the IDMAJ Sale community centre. Each morning, they taught English lessons, and afterwards Charly led sports sessions for children aged six to thirteen.
“These included basketball, football, athletics, aerobics, dance, and fun active games like tag and running challenges. The children were full of energy, and although the facilities were not what we’re used to in the UK, their enthusiasm more than made up for it.”
Small Moments, Big Impact
Between 10 and 18 children attended each day, eager to learn, play and spend time together. For many, the centre was more than just a place to practice English or play games – it was a safe space to make friends and build confidence.
“What amazed me most was how easily everyone connected through sport, despite the language barrier. The children, aged between 6 and 13, threw themselves into the activities with laughter and excitement. What I took away from this experience is the importance of giving your time to others. It’s not always obvious in daily life who might need your support, but even small acts of kindness and presence can brighten someone’s day. For these children, the hours spent at the centre were so precious that they didn’t want to leave, and their joy made the whole experience deeply rewarding.”
Looking Ahead
For Charly, this is just the start. “This was just the first of many projects I hope to take part in throughout my life. I’ve already stayed in touch with the people I met, and I plan to return to Morocco next summer to support other initiatives that work with children and young women.”
At M3, stories like this show the power of giving our people the time and space to support causes they care about. Community days don’t just make an impact in the places they’re spent – they enrich our people too.
