M3 Sings the 'Self-Isolation Blues'

M3 Sings the 'Self-Isolation Blues'

A full-service advertising agency in the West Midlands UK, has released its own take on the famous Bob Dylan song ‘Subterranean Homesick Blues’ in an attempt to deliver a light-hearted observation on staying home during isolation.

More than 30 staff including designers, account managers, creatives, media buyers and digital media specialists have joined forces with their families to come up with the ‘Self-isolation Blues’, a music video to celebrate many of the challenges being presented by the Covid-19 pandemic.

Some of the creative team rewrote the lyrics, recorded new vocals and each member of staff has created a set of over 50 lyric boards to help tell the story of life in the lockdown touching on the importance of washing hands, social distancing and FaceTime. Naturally, there is also plenty of heartfelt thanks to our amazing key workers and NHS too.

“We wanted to ‘do something’ positive and uplifting that could bring some comfort, impart some wisdom maybe or just simply make people smile,” explained Justin Griffiths, Art Director at M3.

We wanted to capture how everyone was dealing with life in self-isolation and the idea of flipping Bob Dylan’s landmark track and coming up with our own lyrics seemed the perfect fit. Recording the new vocals was great fun and everyone got involved with the lyric boards and summing up the different moods we are all experiencing. It even kept our children busy for a while.”

He concluded: “It’s our own way of saying ‘Be Careful’, ‘Be Calm’ and ‘Be Kind’. If we do this, we’ll get through this together.”

The M3 music video went live across all social media platforms on Friday morning and has already amassed over 10,000 views.
